Al Hoota Cave in Oman offers one of the most fascinating natural experiences in the country. Located at the foot of the Al Hajar Mountains near the town of Al Hamra, about 2 hours from Muscat, the cave is a stunning underground world formed over millions of years through limestone erosion.
Arrival & Entry:
The visit starts at the visitor center, where you take a short electric train ride (around 500 meters) through the mountains to the cave entrance.
The train is a unique part of the experience and suitable for all ages.
Inside the Cave:
The guided tour is about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
The cave stretches over 4.5 km, but only about 500 meters is open to the public.
Well-lit walkways guide you through massive stalactites and stalagmites, ancient rock formations, and underground lakes.
The cave is home to the rare blind cavefish (Garra barreimiae), which you can sometimes spot in the pools.
if you're in Oman and interested in nature, geology, or unique landscapes, Al Hoota Cave is absolutely worth visiting. It’s one of the few show caves in the Arabian Peninsula and offers a memorable, family-friendly outing with a mix of adventure and education.
