Al Hoota Cave is a cave located in Al-Hamra', Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate, Oman, that is 5 km long. The cave was first discovered by locals several hundred years ago and was officially opened as a tourist destination in December 2006.

Nestled in the Western Hajar mountains, Al Hoota Cave is a mesmerizing natural wonder waiting to be explored. As you step into this underground marvel, you will be greeted by an otherworldly landscape of stalactites and stalagmites, illuminated by soft lighting that adds to the mystical ambiance

The cave stretches approximately 5 km underground, though only around 500–860 m (a 45‑minute guided loop) is open to tourists .

Geologists estimate the cave was formed by carbon-rich water over 2 million years ago, dissolving limestone through tectonic fissures 

Local legend claims a shepherd discovered it in the 1960s after losing his goat, though others say locals have used it as a secret shelter for centuries

  • Transport from visitor centre to cave entrance: Previously an electric train, it's now replaced by a golf buggy service, making it easier for those with limited mobility to avoid the 500 m uphill walk

  • Visitor centre: Offers smooth access to the geological museum and café. Paths are paved and generally accessible

  • Guided tours only: You must join an official guided tour—self-exploration is strictly forbidden. Paths are paved with steps and railings to enhance safety

  • Limited access area: Only approximately 500–860 m of the cave is open to visitors, reducing exposure to hazardous zones
